December 2007 Nurse Licensure Exam Room Assignments

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announces the availability of the room assignment of applicants in the Nurse Licensure Examination scheduled to be given by the Board of Nursing in December 1 & 2, 2007.

The room assignments are categorized as follows: one for the REGULAR EXAMINATION and the other one, for the SPECIAL EXAMINATION-JUNE 2006 RETAKERS and REMOVAL EXAMINATION.

DoLE Advisory: Transmittal of Voluntary Exam Results to CGFNS

The Quisumbing-Torres Law Firm, which was retained by the United States Commission on graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS), confirmed on November 9, 2007 that they already forwarded the consolidated electronic data containing the results of the June 2007 DOLE-initiated Voluntary Retake Examination as well as other data from the PRC, to the CGFNS last October 27. This was received by the CGFNS on 05 November 2007.

The DOLE earlier forwarded the results, in electronic and hard copy formats, to the Quisumbing-Torres Law Firm, on 30 August 2007, who then forwarded them, along with data from the PRC, to the CGFNS during the first week of September. Shortly upon receipt, the CGFNS returned the same to the law firm for consolidation of the data from DOLE and PRC.

The DOLE arlready complied with its mandate under Executive Order 609, viz: providing for a system of voluntary and free retake exam, free review classes and transmittal of results to CGFNS.

The status of applicants for VisaScreen certification may be followed up via the CGFNS Hotline (215) 3498767 extension 476.

December 2007 Nurse Licensure Examination Relevant Links, Tips, and Articles

U.P. Graduate Student Receives Review Scholarship Package

University of the Philippines (U.P.) graduate student Maria Rowena Victorino was awarded the review scholarship package courtesy of Carl Balita Review Center.

The full scholarship package was awarded by Andrew T. Bilog, RN, of Filipino Nursing Post at Gateway Mall, Araneta Center, Quezon City.

The scholarship, announced at Pinoy R.N. last month, includes a free review course for NCLEX-RN and IELTS.

A registered nurse since 1999, Victorino bested thirteen (13) other applicants who signified interest over the review scholarship package with the exception of Ryan Libatique who emerged as the top applicant for the scholarship but has decided to give way to other applicants due to unforeseen circumstances.

The applicants underwent a screening process which involved an online panel interview, online exam screening, and essay writing contest.

Chatroom Reset Scheduled at Midnight Tonight

The Pinoy R.N. Chatroom will be reset tonight at midnight (12:00 AM November 6, 2007) to address the persistent automatic ban problem of the chat software.

As an unavoidable consequence of the reset, all chatroom information such as member and moderator lists will be reset too. Everybody will be back to guest status.

As such, new moderators (a few will be retained) will be appointed as there have been a barrage of e-mail complaints about moderators not implementing the guidelines to the letter. Some even violate the rules themselves. This difficult decision is in compliance with the XAT terms of use which requires the chatroom to be moderated at all times (meaning guidelines are implemented 24/7). Please note that requests for mod status will not be entertained.

Visa Recapture Dropped from Approriations Bill

RETROGRESSION UPDATE

The much talked-about Labor Health and Human Services appropriations bill, where a recapture of 61,000 nurse visas was initially attached, was approved yesterday by a combined conference committee of both the U.S. House and Senate.

However, the nurse amendment did not survive the conference. The recapture provision would have provided temporary relief to the lingering nurse visa backlog that is projected to last until 2009 with the looming U.S. presidential election.

Meanwhile, the law firm Hammond Law Group (HLG) predicts that another bridge amendment would be introduced soon in one of the forthcoming budget bills.
