The California Board of Registered Nursing will no longer accept applications lacking a U.S. social security number (SSN). This was announced recently by the board on its website.
California BRN Announcement on SSN - www.PinoyRN.net

Before this announcement, applicants without U.S. social security numbers were still allowed to sit for the NCLEX exam. Only those who passed the exam were required to submit a U.S. SSN as a requirement for the issuance of their RN license.

Thanks to Mizuki for the heads up.

How lame for Boards of Nursing. This SSN should have been required in the first place. No wonder, so many illegal nurses on the floor.

just apply for nclex in other states..it's that easy!
thank you mr. lyle. are you positive that those who received their eligibility can still take? because i am one of them. thanks so much
How can i avail for SSN yet i am not a US citizen nor permanent resident of the US? pls help!

Another clear sign along the road for nurses from the Philippines (of which there is a massive oversupply) that the nursing demand for the USA is effectively CLOSED. The nursing boom was bound to end (as all fads must) and it has definitely done so. California is the first destination for most, but this latest development dumps cold water on the hundreds of thousands with ambitions of going there to work as a nurse.
Sad, but parents must move on and avoid the nursing dead-end for the rest of their children, by simply STOP SENDING YOUR CHILDREN TO NURSES - BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO THE USA ANYMORE.
I agree. There is too much competition as there are too many nurses with nowhere to go. It is the parents' responsibility not to throw their children into a profession with no jobs available in the end.

This is simply nursing overload or overkill. Too many nurses, no jobs available abroad.
yeah right stop taking nursing because usa are no longer able to accommodate the over nursing population so what happened was .. no job yet professionals!
This only affects California people! Stop getting all gloom and doom! Lots of states will still let you apply without an SSN!

If you already have eligibility then you are not affected.
If you have to re-apply then sorry to say that your re-applications, renewals, endorsements, extensions, etc. will NOT be accepted.

For all pinoyrns, forget coming to America, there is no more nursing demand, and you will grow old waiting. There are just too many pinoy rns and not enought jobs for all outside the pinas.
You will have to accept the hard fact that you will never get to the USA in your lifetimes.
