Established in January 2001 as an interstate agreement among Utah, Maryland, Arizona, and Wisconsin, the NLC became a successful mutual recognition model of nurse licensure allowing nurses to have one license (in his/her state of residency) and practice in other participating states without the need to apply for a separate license in that state.
